MONTY DON BROOCH - RED AND GREY STONES

This is a Monty Don brooch with the original packaging.  It is not signed.  I presume - like Butler and Wilson - the more elaborate pieces with signed and others were not.  It came from a lady who said she had bought it new but did not wear it any more.  It has red and grey stones on white metal and measures about 2 inches square.  Price £68 ref: 3204 D12/9

This wonderful Czech vintage brooch was probably made in Gablonz in the 1930's.  It is quite large - being approx 3 x 2 inches and an oval shape.  The glass stones are different shapes and colours.  The metal work is elaborate.  It is in very good condition for the age.  Great brooch to wear on a winter shawl!  Ref: 3141 C81/11 Price £88

LARGE VINTAGE FLOWER BROOCH WITH PINKISH CENTRE STONE

Sometimes I get asked for large, colourful glass stones brooches.  This would certainly fit the bill!  It is a large glass stones flower brooch set on gold tone metal.  The central stone - which is pinned in addition to the double claw setting - is a pinky red.  The petals are various colours - but not even numbers.  The leaves are 2 tone yellow/green.  Great quality and condition.  It measures nearly 4 inches in length.  Ref: 3025 C58/8 Price £88.

FILIGREE VINTAGE BROOCH - WHITE METAL AND RED GLASS STONES

I do love filigree brooches - many of them made in Czech.  Personally the bigger the better - but I know this is not everyone's taste.  This is much smaller - about a 1 1/2 inches square.  It has red glass faceted stones and is set on a white metal base. This has small leaves and a diamond pattern

1930s BAKELITE FRUITS & WOOD BASE BROOCH

Lucky to get this brooch with 6 bakelite fruits on a dark wood base.  It is in reasonable condition considering its age and the fact that often the plastic peels off the chord and a lot of white cord shows through.  I have also seen this brooch on the internet with one of the fruits missing.  I have also tried to keep the price down - as I have seen these going for a lot of money.  Strange there isn't an apple - but I do love the fruits!  Full details are on my web site as usual - including a condition report.  Price £128 reference 3017 C51/36

My customers like to give gifts that are meaningful for the recipients.  This Butler & Wilson camera brooch would be great for a photographer.  Not sure of the date but think it is vintage.  It is quite detailed and has the B & W in a circle on the back.  Hope it goes to a good home!

TRIFARI - VINTAGE BROOCH - 3 BLACK CATS IN BASKET

Love vintage Trifari jewellery - especially the older pieces.   It is such a shame that the company has been sold so many times since the 70s.  I do not even hear of it now.  This black cat brooch has a Trifari mark that I cannot date.  I am assuming it is a vintage piece - but I cannot be sure.  Cats are so popular in my shop - at Grays Antiques - that I just had to buy this piece.  The 3 black cats have emerald green glass stones for eyes and sit in a gold tone metal basket with diamante trim and a bow.  Full details - as usual - on my web site - together with sizes and price - ref: 2997 C52/4

ATTWOOD & SAWYER - VINTAGE GOLD TONE PEACOCK BROOCH WITH GREEN STONES

This is an Attwood and Sawyer vintage peacock brooch.  It is on goldtone metal and has emerald like green glass stones, a red eye and diamante stones round the body.  On my web site I have notes about the Attwood and Sawyer company.  I love this brooch - it is so well made - and the green stones are glorious!  Full details as usual on the web site. ART DECO BROOCH - GREEN & BLACK GLASS PIECES ON SILVER

Not absolutely sure if this was made in the Art Deco period or in an Art Deco revival period.  There are no clues that I can see!  It is simply made of two semicircles of glass - black and green - on a silver back with silver tubes.  As it is marked 925 - I cannot sell it as silver without a Hallmark.  Nevertheless it is a very stylish brooch - in very Deco colours and would be easy to wear.  Full details on my web site - www.gillianhorsup.com - price £75 reference 2812 C5/9

Here's a car brooch with a difference! It is a green VW Beetle - covered with aurora borealis (carnival glass) stones. ART NOUVEAU STYLE LADY BROOCH IN WHITE METAL

I do have trouble trying to decide what date some of my pieces of vintage jewellery were made.  This brooch is an example.  I am sure it is not an original Art Nouveau piece but it has the correct push pull clasp for the period.  I am also sure it is not modern - it is probably silver plated on brass (due to the weight).  I think there were quite a lot of Art Nouveau style pieces made in the 1970's - but this is just a guess!  Anyway it is an impressive brooch - probably made in France (where it was recently bought) and it is in good condition.  It measures approx 3 x 2 inches.  See my web site - www.gillianhorsup - price £75.  Reference 2761 C8/38
