TRIFARI GOLD TONE & BLACK GLASS STONES CLIP EARRINGS

The firm Trifari has been famous in the costume jewellery world for around 100 years until it was sold to Liz Claibourne in the year 2000.  These gold tone and black glass clip earrings are marked Trifari TM - which I understand dates them between the late 1980s - around 1995 - just taking them into the vintage category.  I think this may have been one of the last original Trifari marks (see more on my web site - www.gillianhorsup.com and extra pictures).  The earrings are in good condition and of course being Trifari they are of a good quality.  Ref: 3314 D38/27  Price £55

BUTLER & WILSON VERY LONG REPTILE BROOCH - WHITE METAL AND DIAMANTE

This Butler & Wilson very long reptile brooch is made of white metal with white diamante stones.  It is articulated and made of seven separate pieces.  Butler & Wilson have been making costume jewellery in London since the 1970s.  I do not know the date of this particular piece but these long reptile brooch were popular in the 1980s.  It is in good condition and there is a black Butler & Wilson box.   There is a full description and lots of photos on my web site - www.gillianhorsup.co under Designers Butler & Wilson very long reptile brooch - white metal and diamante - Butler & Wilson.  Price £88 ref: 3313 C19/27  I always like to have a few pieces of Butler & Wilson jewellery.

EDOUARD RAMBOUD GOLD TONE SQUARE CLIP EARRINGS WITH CENTRAL REDDISH BROWN GLASS STONE

I always buy Edouard Ramboud jewellery when I get the chance.  He made very over the top jewellery in the 1980s but I know very little about him.  This pair of gold tone square clip earrings with a central reddish brown stone are very wearable for day or evening wear.  In my shop at Alfies Antiques I always have a good selection of clip earrings as a lot of my customers do not have pieced ears.  Also some of the heavier earrings are best as clips so they do not stretch my customers' piercing holes.  I sell earrings for both day and evening wear and they are the most popular items in the shop.  Ref: 3310 D38/24 Price £55.  More details including measurements on my web site.  Please see link.

GOLD TONE VINTAGE CARRYALL - DOUBLE SIDED WITH LIPSTICK

This is a vintage, gold tone metal, carryall compact.  Carryalls were first introduced in the 1930s and had peaked in their popularity by the end of the 1950s.  This one does not have a maker's mark.  It is double sided.  On the front it has a diamond pattern.  On the side it has a lipstick in a holder.  I do not think the compact has been used.  The lipstick and powder well is in an used state.  The first compartment is for cigarettes.  The other side is for loose powder.  It also has a fabric purse that has a small brown comb on the other side.  The mirror is not damaged -just has a few small patches of deteriation of the glass.  There are a couple of small marks on the plain back but no damage to the carryall.  Please click the link to my website to see a more comprehensive description, measurements and lots more pictures.  www.gillianhorsup.com under 'compacts'  ref: 3309 D38/1

EARLY PLASTIC DISPLAY IN MY SHOP AT ALFIES ANTIQUES

I have just spent and after tidying my display of early plastics - including bakelite, celluloid and galalith.  Unable to show more than one section in this picture - just the yellow, brown, orange hues.  The other colours - and the bangles - are on a different shelf space.  Also on the shelf are some metal, glass and wood items.  I can see bakelite necklaces, dress clips and earrings.  some celluloid brooches.  A yellow fabric bag with a celluloid top, some wooden bead brooches, Deco earrings, dog brooches and lots of assorted earrings.  I just love this period of costume jewellery and always try to have a good selection.  This of course are in just one of the many cabinets I have in the shop.  People thing Alfies is difficult to get to - but it is really quite easy - being near to St. Marylebone and Edgeware Road underground stations.  The 139 and 189 buses stop very near- as do the buses along the Edgeware Road.  The Rooftop Cafe sells excellent coffee and cakes and on a good day you can sit outside.  Would love to meet you so do pay a visit if you are a Deco fan!

LEA STEIN BROOCH = THE JOAN CRAWFORD = RED BLACK IVORINE

This is the Lea Stein woman's head brooch that is known as the Joan Crawford.  In the Lea Stei Jewelry book - written by Judith Last - it says this was designed between 1968-80.  It is a very popular brooch in my shop at Alfies Antiques in Marylebone.  I particularly like the colours in this one.  The hair is in typical Lea Stein layers of black, red and cream.  The face is an ivorine colour and the jacket is in a swirley red patter with a plain collar.  This one measures approx 2 x 2 1/4 inches.  It is priced at £65.  The reference number is 3308 D31/14.  It is one of a good selection of Lea Stein brooches I have in my shop.  If you are looking for a particular model please let me know and I will see if I can get one.

DIOR VINTAGE GOLD TONE MESH BOW CLIP EARRINGS - 1960s

This is a pair of Christian Dior vintage gold tone mesh bow clip earrings from around 1960.  This sort of mesh was very popular and the earrings might have been part of a range of items.  They are in very good condition and there is a cartouche under the clip.  Full details on web site with measurements.  Price £78 ref: 3307 D38/28

LEA STEIN BROOCH - THE SPARKLEY FOX

Another wonderful Lea Stein fox brooch in a sparkley, fine stripes pattern.  So many different colours - without being over the top!  Quite discreet in fact!  Love it!  Just one of the many Lea Stein brooches I have at my shop at Alfies Antiques in central London.  Price £65 ref: 3305 D24/3

KJL GOLD TONE, BLUE STONES, HINGED BANGLE FOR QVC

I fell in love with the deep blue glass stones in this KJL bangle for QVC - made between 1991-2000.  It has a magnetic clasp and is on a gold tone metal.  Complete description and measurements on my web site under 'contemporary' - see link.

BEETLE BROOCH - VERY LARGE WHITE METAL WITH RED STONES BODY

This is a very large beetle brooch - fairly new I think - on a pewter colour white metal with black body parts and two red with red stones sections.  It certaily makes a statement!  I know nothing about it but love its quirkiness.    Full details and measurements on my web site under 'contemporary'.  Price £75.00  PS I have now found out this is made by Marion Godart Paris.

LEA STEIN BROOCH - THE GREEN FROG

Love this Lea Stein green frog brooch.  Half of the brooch is in a vibrant emerald green pattern.  The other half is more subdued - in a leaf green complicated pattern with stripes.  The brooches are made of cellulose acetate and I do not know how she manages to create such a wealth of textures, colours and patterns in her brooches.  Love the cream and black eyes too!  Price £65 Ref: 3302 D31/12

E. RAMBOUD LARGE GOLD TONE CUFF BANGLE FOR LANCOME PARIS

This is very large, and quite spectacular. It is a gold tone, open ended bangle marked 'E. EARLY 20TH CENTURY COIN PURSE WITH GOLD TONE MESH AND FINGER RING
