ART DECO CIGARETTE HOLDER - MAN WITH HAT

Here's a mad art deco cigarette or cheroot holder. It is made of celluloid and has a man's head and hat. The cigarette sticks out at right angles to the holder. I love cigarette holders - although I do not smoke - and always like to have them in my shop at Grays Antiques. If you like them too do pay me a visit. Grays is next to Bonds Street tube station - see maps and pictures on my web site - here and see me on Facebook - Gillian Horsup Vintage Jewellery. The cigarette holder is priced at £120 and the reference is 2131 B81/40

CZECH CHINESE STYLE 1930'S BROOCH

A Czech brooch in the Chinese style from around 1930 - probably made by Neiger. The Chinese style was very popular at this time - along with the Egyptian Revival style. Brooches, necklaces, earrings and bracelets were made in these styles in brass and glass - to immitate jade, coral etc. These pieces are now very collectible and I don't get them very often. Ref: 2128 B85/32. Price £88. A brooch in the Egyptian style went on Ebay recently for nearly £200. I always put these pieces on the web site so do watch! connect to my web site here Do visit my shop at Grays Antiques if you can.

CLEEVIS SUN SPECTACLES

Here's a pair of really whacky sun specs. The firm that made them went into administration in 1939 so they must pre date that! They have no glass - just slits in the black plastic lenses. They would have been influenced by the Eskimos - who used this idea to protet from the glare of the sun. They are made of celluloid - to look like tortoishell. Price £88. Ref: 2127 B84/38. See full description on my web site and see me on Facebook - Gillian Horsup Vintage Jewellery.Do visit my shop at Grays Antiques - near Bond Street. Here's the link for my site - press here where you will find lots of interesting things!

ART DECO DRESS CLIP - GREEN GALALITH & WHITE PASTE

I love dress clips - they are so versatile! You can either wear them as a dress clip or hang them on a chain or torque. They can even be worn in the hair or on shoes or bags. With a little bit of imagination they can transform an outfit! This one is made of Galalith (casein) - an early plastic - used around the time that bakelite was popular. It is a lovely green - and has a row of white paste stones across the top and down one side. It is £58 and the reference is 2117 B56/26. See me on Facebook - Gillian Horsup Vintage Jewellery - or look at my web site - find it here for a good selection of vintage costume jewellery and accessories. Or find me at Grays Antiques near Bond Street tube station in central London.

GLASS FLOWERS VINTAGE BLUE NECKLACE

This wonderful glass flowers necklace is probably Czech - made in the Art Deco period. As I can't find these necklaces documented anywhere I can only guess. It is rather wonderful. The blue in the picture is not quite accurate - it is more the muted colour of bluebells. Each glass flower bead has a brass wire embedded in the glass. This forms a loop to thread the beads on. I have never had one with so many beads on it. Price £120. Ref: 2114 B71/14. If you get an opportunity to visit my shop at Grays Antiques in central London, I would love to see you. You can see me on Facebook - gillian horsup vintage jewellery - and my web site is click here to take a look! I always have a good selection of necklaces in the shop. (full details of how to get to the shop - and where I am in Grays - are on the web site!

LEA STEIN CICADA BROOCH- RED & BLACK

I love this red and black cicada brooch by Lea Stein! I do wear the cicada brooch - sometimes I wear a pair! This is in very strong colours - red and black for the head and black and white for the wings. These are edge in black and red. On the cicada you can easily see the layers of cellulose acetate in different colours that are bonded together to make the stripes. I also counted at least 6 different pieces that had to be put together - in addition to the clasp (which is marked with Lea Stein's name and Paris). The cicada is one of the bigger Lea Stein brooches. Full details on my web site - www.gillianhorsup.com - click here for my website Price £55. Ref: 2113 B77/30. My shop is at Grays Antiques in central London.

CELLULOID HAIR COMB- - RED & BLACK VINTAGE

A vintage celluloid hair comb. This is quite different from the normal faux tortoishell hair comb - or indeed the Art Deco hair combs with the coloured paste stones. It is a red comb overlaid with black. It has the straight lines of the Art Deco period and the wavy floral lines of the Art Nouveau. The red shows round the edge of the black. The back is entirely red. A great design! Price £75. Ref: 2112 B83/47. www.gillianhorsup.com for more details and my other stock. my website is here What I have on my web site is a very small proportion of the stock in my shop at Grays Antique (The Mews) in central London.
